Mayra was born in Celaya, Guanajuato, México. She got her BSc in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Biology from the University of Guanajuato in 2008. In 2014, she obtained her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Guanajuato, under the direction of Prof. Eduardo Peña Cabrera (University of Guanajuato) and Prof. J. Cristóbal López Pérez (IQOG-CSIC Madrid, Spain). Her research work was related to the fluorescent labeling of monosaccharides with Bodipy dyes, and the development of synthetic methodologies to achieve the synthesis of C-arylglycosides. In 2013, the University of Guanajuato awarded her the University Merit Medal for the excellence she demonstrated in her graduate studies. In 2015 she was awarded “Orgullo UG” prize by the same University for her PhD thesis. In 2015 she joined to Cosa Group, and she is working in the design and synthesis of fluorescent probes with modulated reactivity towards ROS.

Mayra also enjoys spending time reading, listening to music (a music lover), drinking coffee or a good beer with friends, traveling, and walking in the city.
